So, I'm taking a Persuasive Speech class, and it's only the second day and it's going to kick my BUTT. Because in this second day of class, we have to present a two to three minute long speech on some current event. So, because I actually finally DID the damn thing (at 11pm the night before, go me), and because I'm clocking in at about 2:30 (right on schedule, cause I'm AMAZING like that), and because it's SLIGHTLY more interesting than Maths, I present it to you.

Um... may be slightly triggering? It's about Blaming The Victim in cases of rape and harassment. And how it demeans everyone to buy into that mentality (hey! There's that word I was looking for earlier! Now that it's not important to the speech, of course).

I've seen these posts around a lot more recently, so I thought I should join in. I have 10 Dreamwith invite codes just sitting there, so if you want one, speak up.

Update on my last post. The first one is still apparently a troll. But the second one has had the OP (or someone claiming to be the OP) comment in response the four people who called out for a mod to delete its racefail. The OP's response? The good old "I'm ____ race, so I can't be racist!" It's true that true racism as it's explained in beginning sociology (the only kind I've taken) implies that it can only come from a race that is higher in the pecking order than the other. So, for example, while in 1950's America (and today, too, but it was more evident then) a white person could be racist against a black person, but the opposite could not hold true, because the African American people in general did not hold a position of authority or power over a white person. Instead, they could merely be prejudiced against them. I know, it's stupid, but that's how it was explained.

So, according to that, we say racist and mean prejudiced. But, in any case, it would depend on the community size and the make up of said community, etc.



It was especially awesome that the OP claimed to be a different race than the one listed in the original comment. Because that makes it all better? It's implied (to my white American way of thinking) that their skin is darker than mine by several shades. But, in comparing African American skin tones to what they did in their request is, to my mind and apparently several others, just not on. Even if it was an African American person posting that request I would still say that it wasn't cool, for multiple reasons that probably people all ready know or otherwise don't care about.

If the whole "here have some drugs to make you normal!" thing would actually make me something like normal. Instead of making it so I kinda have ADD (even more than I used to, even). I mean, I have ten books currently out from the library, at least 16 books in pdf form that I haven't read yet, three currently opened big bang tabs, and I don't even want to know how many booked marked in my "To Read" folder.

Instead, I'm bouncing around the internet and playing NeoQuest, sometimes.

... on second thought, maybe that is normal for me after all.

I swear, I will catch up eventually.



I also have 9 or 10 books checked out from the library... Next time I complain about never having anything to read, slap me.

RE: The portland write up by Diane.

The ONLY thing that I quibbled with was the colour of the van that the guys got into at the end of the night.  Very unimportant in the grand scheme of things.  The rest of it was true, and if you try to say that I said otherwise, I will laugh in your face.

I don't give a flying fuck most of the time, but using me to bash someone else is just not on.  If you ask me, I'll tell you what I think, but I try not to bring it up because I try to be nice.

Surprisingly, most of us are supposed to be grown ups.  If you don't like what someone is doing, as long as it's not directly impacting you or your family, grow up and get the fuck over it.
